TMJ

The strangest thing has happened to me.

Thursday I was went to work like any other day. Nothing abnormal occurred. I then went to Zumba with a friend. I had noticed that my jaw was a bit sore all day, but blamed it on sleeping in strange positions. Throughout the night the pain worsened. Friday morning came about and I could barely open my mouth to brush my teeth. The pain was incredible. I thought maybe I should just walk it off. My dad always told me to do that so I thought why not use it in this situation. I then carpooled to work and tried to forget about it. I couldn't eat breakfast. I then ordered soup for lunch and could also not eat it without tears forming. I decided this was not something that could wait until Monday. I needed to see a doctor TODAY! It was a very complicated situation since I did not drive that day to work. Eventually a fellow co-worker offered me her car and I headed to the nearest walk-in clinic. After a very long time waiting and reading about the Kstate football game with tornado like weather in an ESPN magazine I was sent to wait another 30 minutes in a room. I then read about how amazing the Chiefs are playing this year and how the authors of ESPN believe that their next game will result in a loss. Either way I was really happy to be in Seattle reading about Kansas events :) The doctor then came in and went over all of my symptoms and diagnosed me with TMJ. Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome. Not only was I unimpressed by my current weight I now felt like an old lady. It turns out that this happens mostly to women between the ages for 20-40 :( They think it is related to stress and then prescribed some relaxing drugs. Today it is already much better! They do recommend jaw surgery for the future, but I keep throwing that aside. I'll stick with the drugs for now.
