So I'm back in Fort Dauphin for the main purpose of meeting my supervisor Giuseppe Donati. On Monday he heads off with 2 other students to check out a new site in the mountains. I think most of my data is collected, but I want to get the go ahead from him. If this is the case, then I have about 2 weeks to relax by the lake at my campsite and visit with the villagers. I have a feeling though that he is going to want more data; which is also okay :)
Today, Chantal and I arrived at the hotel and immediately headed to the beach. They have my favorite restaurant there (which happens to also be the most expensive), but in American dollars for the both of us it costs $15 for 2 meals (steal kabobs/salad/fries, sausage/fries/rice), 2 sodas (Fanta Orange), and we shared a chocolate crepe. In Malagasy currency, that's 35,000Ar - which is very expensive here. We can find cheaper restaurants, but sometimes I like to reward myself for being so good in the forest. :)
Since I'll be in the city for a few days, I'll post every day telling you a bit about my week with some pictures. Unfortunately facebook is not working yet again, so you'll have to wait to see all of my pictures.

When we first arrived in Petriky the campsite was empty. I think because everyone thought we weren't coming back, including myself! So, I quickly tried to set up my tent. It was a bit hard because it was dark out already (5PM) so I had my guide and guard hold flashlights on me. Our cook had disappeared so Chantal and I made our first dinner in the forest. I think it was meat, veggies, and rice and it actually turned out to be tasty!

During the day our guards were kind enough to make our meals for us until we got a new cook a few days later. I went over a week without watching my clothes I won't tell you how long it had been since I had showered. Needless to say I was very excited for my new cook to arrive. Not that I need help showering lol. I couldn't wash my clothes/shower for a long period of time because we were moving from forest to the city to a the forest without water/a place to shower or dry our clothes. I smelled horribly!
Over the week I made 4 new transects and 12 new plots. We were busy from 5:30AM to 8:30AM and I usually played a movie once a day for everyone either during lunch or dinner. We watched Tropic Thunder, Madagascar, and Rush Hour II in Chinese (That was interesting!). Here are a few pictures from the forest:
