Last Week in the Bush

The one thing I really missed this week in the bush was PEANUT BUTTER! I actually found some questionable peanut butter this morning in a store. I came very close to buying it, but went with the sealed nutella jar instead.

Since it is winter here it has actually been quite cold at night/morning. I would say it has to be in the 50s or less. The short days are still quite warm or maybe it is just because I'm running through the forest, but it gets up to 75F right now. In the summer I think it normally is in the 100s so for me this is actually quite nice. If I get too hot I just sit on the beach next to my camp and the breeze cools me off. Plus it is quite relaxing.

Sometimes I feel like Katniss from the Hunger Games hoping my sponsors deliver just what I need. This week my local supervisor stopped by and brought chocolate with him. I don't think I have ever been happier. I ate the whole bar in at least 2 minutes. I told my student that if she wants some she better eat faster! lol. It was just what I needed. I asked QMM if we could regenerate the cocoa tree in Petriky, but they told me no :(  So for now I'll just have to import my chocolate bars from the store in the city before I head to the forest.

Since we have been collecting the habitat data this means that I'm deep in the forest and I have at least 148 bleeding cuts all over my arms and legs. I like to see if any become infected. Its a fun game for me :)  I only have the parasitic lake water to bathe in so you never know what will happen! Don't worry so far, nothing has become infected and I haven't been sick in a few weeks!!! The doctor is a 2 hour ride away, but the driver to pick me up also has to drive 2 hours which means....if I get bit by an aggressive snake or something more serious its about a 4 hour wait until I can get to a doctor or hospital.

Did I mention that my new guide LOVES Justin Bieber? We sing/dance to his songs while searching for the maki :) Did I mention that my SECOND new guide is the President of one of the nearby villages? Scary. I have to behave. Did I mention that my guides + everyone that lives here eat the lemurs......
