How To: Relax

Have you seen How To: Lose a Guy in 10 Days? Best movie ever.

Anyways, after living a year in limbo, I have become an expert at learning how to be content in this phase of my life and learning how to relax after spending hours job searching. Do you have a physical job? Do you spend hours at a desk? Either way, here are some of the things I do to unwind.

1. Take a Bath.
Yes, I know that today was a bit odd with it being the first of October (White Rabbit) and a high of 83F (28C), but I promise it will help. I set up the scene with many lit candles, lavender bath salts, and my iPod set to my Easy Going playlist from Spotify. If you're scared of the dark or music doesn't do it for you, read a book, most fiction books are mindless and will help you de-stress.

2. Drink Tea.
I love drinking tea. I usually stick with a decaffeinated green tea so that I receive both the warmth and the benefits.

3. Unplug and Meditate.
Silence your phone, television, iPad, iPod, kindle, beeper, and fax machine. Find a relaxing spot, light a candle, and dim the lights. You could try the 100 breath method, try to recreate your modern dance stretching classes, or yoga. There are many options, just pick the one best suited for you. Think about what you are thankful for or don't think at all.

4. Journal.
Write it out. Go to your favorite room in the house or a local coffee shop and jot it down. Maybe you just need to organize your life.  Try not to make a chore or listed on your 'to-do' list.

5. Exercise.
Now and then, you just need to go for a run and let the tears fall down your face.

6. Massage.
Thankfully my suitor is a licensed massage therapist. You bet I take advantage of that! Massage is the #1 way I help my self relax.

7. Friends and Family.
On occasion, you need to surround yourself with positive people who love you dearly. So vent with a co-worker or laugh with your bestie.

8. Chocolate and Alcohol.
Periodically, a bite of salted caramel chocolate or a Hoegaarden beer will help you forget all of your problems. I'm not suggesting you drink a keg, but a little might help :)
