Alice in Wonderland

Bank Update: I still don't have my debit card, which means I still don't have money :(

Tomorrow for class we are going to the Museum of Natural History.  Are you ready for another history lesson about Oxford?? Okay, okay, okay calm down now!!! Once upon a time there was this amazing British author named Lewis Carroll.  Lewis Carroll attended Christ Church. Do you remember that Oxford college I mentioned a few days ago? There was a picture of it relating it to Harry Potter and the 101 church bells at 9:05? Yes, that's the same college, Christ Church College, which is part of The University of Oxford.  So he attended that college in 1851.  Well Lewis Carroll (his real name was Charles Dodgson), wrote Alice in Wonderland.  Growing up he had a stammer so he referred to himself as the Dodo character in Alice in Wonderland.  They say that "Alice" was made from an Alice who was one of his acquaintances he met in Oxford.  I'm not a historian so please don't quote me. I'm basically summarizing what I've learned thus far.  I know, this doesn't relate to primates, but it's quite interesting!  So what does this have to do with the Museum of Natural History you ask? Well, the dodo specimen was kept at the Museum of Natural History here in Oxford and was what inspired the character in Lewis Carroll's play Alice in Wonderland. Guess who gets to see this bird tomorrow??? I do! That's right. Don't be jealous.  If they allow, I will of course be there with my Nikon.

Speaking of Alice in Wonderland, there is a store called Alice's shop that was "Alice's sweet shop" 150 years ago. I still need to check it out, but that's pretty cool.  If you've ever read Lewis's other work of art Through the Looking Glass the store was talked about in the book. It's 11:00 PM so now I still need to write 2 papers, read a chapter, and memorize 15 latin names. I love grad school.
