Ian Redmond

Ian Redmond gave us an amazing lecture yesterday.  He showed us the video below which was used as a video for the International Year of Forests 2011 website. Edward Norton is the narrator.

It is only ~8 minutes.
Is the essential being destroyed to produce the superfluous?

Then he showed us this video:

It is a video that shows the precipitation throughout the year in the world.  The white is the water vapor whereas the orange is the actual rainfall.  Even though the rain falls in the rain forests the vapors are still reaching us.  Especially, the U.K. Just think, what if we no longer have a rain forest? He brought up some good points.  The grapes in the wine that we drink are produced by these water and the rain on the Midwest for corn and other products is from the Caribbean and S. America. We should be doing more to help these sources so that we can continue to receive these benefits. He was a very nice, soft spoken guy and it was cool to get to hear him talk!

Okay, that's enough of my conservation videos for the day :)  I just found it really interesting and it easier to relate to for those of us who aren't actually using these forests day to day.
