I'm heading to the forest tomorrow only it will be a new one than the one I've currently been working in. This one will be luxurious because I can walk to the QMM office to shower (hot water), use a toilet, and eat lunch and dinner in the cafeteria. So nice! It sucks that I can't head back to finish collecting data in my own study site, but the upside is that I get to collect new data to compare to Petriky. So all in all, it's starting to look up. Not to mention that my Oxford supervisor arrives tomorrow. I really need him to tell me what to do because I'm so lost!!
I came to Madagascar with the intention of studying the ring-tailed lemurs behavior. Unfortunately the locals ate my study species and I had to switch to my back up project - nocturnal lemurs and habitat data. I spent the whole year studying behavior and ring-tailed lemurs and spent very little time (5 minutes) studying nocturnal lemurs and methods for botanical plots. Needless to say, I'm kind of making this study up on my own and being the oldest child, being unprepared is driving me nuts.
It is a Masters project with wild animals in Africa so I knew things wouldn't go perfectly as planned, but I never imagined this. At least, it is isn't the season for cyclones :) I've learned a lot about many different things so I definitely do NOT regret this location for my project nor the study species. This is Africa after all :)
I will have the internet on and off for the next 2 weeks, but I'm hoping the office will give us access to their internet so I can update you more often than when I was in Petriky.
Love you all
xoxo
