I stayed at the Berenty Reserve a few nights ago and it was the best thing I've done in Madagascar.
This was a site that I had considered collecting my data on, but I am kind of glad I didn't. Both sites are very different. My site, has had no previous data collected, so anything I saw was new and exciting. Berenty has been around for years and Alison Jolly is the famous primatologist who has been studying the ring-tailed lemurs. Petriky, has ring-tailed lemurs, but they are hunted and I chose not to habituate them to human presence for that very reason. In Berenty, the surrounding villages protect the lemurs along with the Reserve is protected so these lemurs are very habituated. This is great for behavioural data; which is what I fancy! Both places are great, but I'm glad I had a chance to make friends with the 3 surrounding villages of Petriky and perform a population density of lemurs for the Mining company. They need to know what they may be destroying.
Enough about that. I'll show you some of my favorite pictures of the trip!
